Radio Luxembourg was a pioneering and hugely popular radio station that broadcasted to millions of people around Europe, on 208 Medium wave, from right here in Luxembourg, from 1933 until 1992. One of the famous DJs on the station in the 1950s-70s was Barry Alldis and today Tom was joined on the Breakfast Show by his daughter Janet Alldis who has recently released a song in tribute to her father. Barry Alldis moved to Luxembourg in 1956 to begin working at Radio Luxembourg, the first commercial radio station in Europe. For 10 years he worked as the chief announcer on the station and built up a huge following around Europe for his groundbreaking radio shows that were often the first place that you could hear new hit records being played. In the 1960s Alldis moved to London and worked as a presenter at the BBC but in the 1970s he returned to Luxembourg with his family and presented the Sunday evening Top 20 show on Radio Luxembourg until his death in 1982.
