Once upon a time, this sport in the ’50s was referred to as “Asphalt Surfers” and then in 1978, Alan Gelfand invented a maneuver that gave skateboarding another revolutionary jump: the “Ollie”, which counts as the greatest trick ever invented and completely revolutionized skateboarding. That was the birth of street skateboarding. Ever since then the sport grew immensely. From Skate videos and magazines in the 80’s to the rise of Extreme Games (X games) in 1995 and in 1999 the Hawk soared through the air to land the first 900 as Tony Hawk became the face of Skateboarding.
