NYSEA guest this week is Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Wayne Weil. Dr. Weil is specialized in many areas including hand surgeries and hand ailments, but also has published several scientific papers and presented his research in the field of trauma injuries at national meetings. That was the focus of our conversation. Traumatic injuries. How do people deal with the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of sustaining a traumatic injury? This past week we saw Dak Prescott suffer a traumatic injury when he was tackled on a routine football play that led to a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. On the same day that Dak sustained his injury, Alex Smith returned to the playing field almost 2 years after suffering a well-documented compound fracture of his tibia and fibula. As Dr. Weil mentions in the show, the easy part is the surgery. The emotional and mental aspect of healing begins after surgery. Fascinating show. Educational and Insightful.
