There is perhaps no greater example in the Bible of the message in Proverbs 16:18 (“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”) than when a seemingly trivial sleepless night begins the downfall of the evil Haman. As a result of Esther’s impassioned plea, Haman’s evil plans are turned against him, his enemy Mordecai is exalted to his position and prominence, and the Jewish people are given right to defend themselves. 1.
