Sinopsis

This month, the world's fastest triathletes will converge at the Gold Coast for the ITU Triathlon Age Group World Championships. The event will feature elites for the ITU Grand Final, but also amateur athletes who have earned qualification to race over both sprint and standard distance events. Australia has produced one of the fastest teams ever assembled, with athletes keen to race on home soil. Among those who will be on the start line is 43-year-old Nathan Fitzakerley. The former Toowoomba resident now based on the Sunshine Coast earned qualification in both the sprint and standard distance events in the 40-44 age group. But it's not the first time Fitzy has worn the green and gold. He has been on the world stage at the Ironman world championship three times, but it was more than 10 years ago he first earned Australian selection over the short distance.
