Continuing with our 100th celebration, Laura Hoo interviews Lynn Yagisawa, Executive Administrator of CLC.

"Letting justice roll down, as Amos proclaims, means letting it bring healing to ourselves, to each other and to our land with the quenching waters that make wrongs right as they cleanse the dirt and filth of injustice. God teaches us to love good and hate evil, but our world is filled with both our own greed and individual injustice and systems of injustice. We will take a look at how the system of patriarchy in particular have meant a lack of justice for widows and orphans and led to human rights abuses against women until this day. We will look at how scripture shows us how God made both man and woman in God's own image with a plan for our mutual flourishing in the kingdom work of justice."

Injustice permeates our world, yet as Christians we sometimes turn a blind eye to the suffering of others or become callaus. King Jeroboams' reign had been quite profitable for the Northern Kingdom, at least in a material sense but moral decay was settling in. And so God spoke through the prophet Amos that He was going to judge the people of Israel - 'The Northern Kingdom' because of their Privileged Positions, Prophetic Revelations, and their Persistent Opressions. Israel were selling off needy people for goods, taking advantages of the helpless, oppressing the poor, and the men were using women immorally.

Zacchaeus. We all want to belong, because we have been created for community. But unfortunately people are more likely to be exclusive rather than inclusive. Zacchaeus the tax collector was one who wanted to belong, but he was instead excluded by his own people. 1. As an outcast, Zacchaeus desperately wanted to see Jesus. (v.2-4) 2. Jesus sees the marginalized and his presense brings great joy. (v.5-6) 3. Jesus came to "seek and save the lost" like Zacchaeus. (v.9-10) Who in your midst do you need to see? Maybe it is even you. Come to Jesus, and if you are desperate, he will see you. Being seen brings joy to the unseen.

Are you desperately seeking Jesus? What does a life desperate for Jesus even look like? Join us this Sunday as Caitlyn Shelnutt continues our sermon series by looking at the story of the forgiven woman in Luke 7, and reminds us of God’s boundless grace and unconditional love! The woman with the jar of perfume. Last week we heard the story of a man who was desperately seeking life, but could not let go of the idols of his heart in order to make room for Jesus. We learned that we can’t desperately seek after Jesus if we’re desperately seeking after other things. This week we continue the series with the story of the sinful woman who poured a jar of expensive perfume and wiped Jesus’ feet with her tears. Through her actions, we see a person who has experienced the overwhelming gift of forgiveness and is now overflowing with love and worship for Jesus… for whoever has been forgiven much, loves much. It’s not about how much we do or do not sin. It’s about how much

The rich young ruler. I’ll be tackling why it’s often hard for us to desperately seek after Jesus. We know it’s right or good in our heads, but for some reason there’s a disconnect when we go to live our lives. We find ourselves not desperately seeking Jesus but seeking other things, often desperately. In the case of the rich young ruler, Jesus hit the nail on the head and identified the idol of his heart - his possessions, or rather the security and self-sufficiency that his possessions provided him. This was the thing that was keeping him from following Jesus wholeheartedly and being saved (entering into the kingdom). Now the message here is not a works-based ticket to heaven. Of course, salvation and more specifically justification is a free gift of God that we could not earn. But it does require a repentance and turning from our ways and the idols of our hearts in order to allow Jesus to be Lord over all aspects of our lives.

The bleeding woman deonstrated a faith that: 1. Takes risks. 2. Gets Jesus' complete attention. 3. Is not perfect. 4. Brings a full healing Are you desperately seeking healing? Do you want to be like this woman? Desperate faith receives scandalous grace.

Intro series: Are you Desparate? for Jesus? In this new chapter for our church, we will continue to focus on growing our faith, and pursuing our mission; we must see our church as: 1. An Emergency Room. We all come "sick." We must have a sense of urgency to get well, even desperation to pursue God. What are you desperate for? 2. Lights. We are on the move seeking the desperate among us. What are you seeking? 3 A Treasure Chest, where Jesus is the treasure. What is your treasure? Jesus came to dwell among us, and invites us to be Christ-like.

Throughout the Bible, God often uses strange and unlikely means to achieve His goals. Turning water into wine, using his own saliva to open the eyes of a blind person, and marching around the walls of Jericho? As we continue our sermon series - "Moving Forward" we want to REMEMBER that things might be hard for us, but nothing is ever too hard for God. In OBDIENCE we fight our battles with prayers and faith. Lastly, when in doubt or fear we should WORSHIP the God who created the heaven and the earth! 

In his old age, Joshua prepared the people to continue to go into the promiseland in obedience to God's plan for them. In spite of perceived challenges and leadership transition, the people were told to move forward in obedience out of: 1. Trust (Proverbs 3:5-6), 2. Self-denial (Luke 22:42), and 3. Love (John 14:15, 21). Obedience is not optional, but a free-will choice.

How do you move forward with God when things are changing? It would be great if he told you everything that was about to happen but scripture describes a different process. One of trust and reliance on the character and person of God. As CLC looks to a historic move this fall, we will focus on God’s word though Joshua. How do we posture ourselves individually and as a congregation to honor God and follow Him closely things are changing? Remembering Who God is and what he is done is the first step in the right direction.
