  • Running Green with Dr. Chris Maxwell – GT004

    25/04/2017 Duración: 01h17min

I had the pleasure of sitting down and chatting with scientist Dr. Chris Maxwell, who has taken a quick turn from the science world to see what the political spectrum has to offer as the BC Green Party Candidate for the Victoria-Swan Lake riding. We start off talking about this switch and the things that influenced the decision, including his family history & raising a young son. He tells the great little story of how he "Joined" the BC Green Party... sometimes an email is all it takes... Let this be a lesson that acting on those gut feelings in the moment 'Can' lead somewhere, so dive in people. After dabbling in science - talking about the importance of 'evidence' and 'truth' as he puts it, and the March for Science, we then tackle the politics topic... Here Chris talks about some of the issues he's concerned about... childcare, healthcare, mental health, the Massey tunnel/bridge issue and the Site C Dam, Party donations, and more. • “Municipal Government” with City Councillor Jeremy Loveday – GT003

    18/04/2017 Duración: 01h10min

In this episode I got to sit down with Victoria City Councillor Jeremy Loveday. I found it pretty enlightening how the city runs itself, and our level of input or lack thereof (which is on us), not to mention how his job has a very minimal 'actual' job description. We cover a bunch of ground, including: municipal vs provincial/federal; what the municipal government takes care of and how they do it; biweekly council meetings; our current housing crisis; how major donations in politics & campaigns should be discarded; and more... Also, check out Jeremy's poetry - the guy has talent. Thanks for listening & I hope you enjoy! *If you like what you hear and you think it’s important, please share it with as many people as you can… hopefully we can all become a little more aware and involved.* – Until Next time… Stay Curious – CJ

  • The Basics of Voting (BC Provincial Election) – GT002

    25/03/2017 Duración: 46min

I'm back with Ryan Steele from the first episode - he works at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Senior Systems Analyst, and in this episode we talk about the basics of the current system of voting for the provincial government here in BC. The next BC election takes place in May - so it's time to get some insight and we're starting here with the basics. I'm on a bit of a learning curve here (with interviewing & learning about government) - things will get smoother, but in the meantime thanks for the support. Thanks for listening & I hope you enjoy! *If you like what you hear and you think it’s important, please share it with as many people as you can… hopefully we can all become a little more aware and involved.* – Until Next time… Stay Curious – CJ

  • The Provincial Structure – GT001

    06/03/2017 Duración: 47min

Ryan Steele works at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia as a Senior Systems Analyst. His time there has allowed him to get a good understanding of how the provincial government is set up. He lays out the structure of the provincial government, giving a good basis for me to start from. Thanks for listening & I hope you enjoy! *If you like what you hear and you think it’s important, please share it with as many people as you can… hopefully we can all become a little more aware and involved.* – Until Next time… Stay Curious – CJ
