26/10/2019 Duración: 17minDavid Riccio has revealed that he believes Rugby League fans have seen the last of Sam Burgess, after a devastating shoulder injury has crippled the English star. Speaking on Macquarie Sport Radio's Weekend Afternoon show with Trent Nikolic and Richie Callander, the Daily Telegraph's journalist explained that Burgess' problematic shoulder has plagued him for majority of 2019 and restrained many of his performances. “I think he’s done unfortunately. I got the feeling that even halfway through this year that Sam was certainly not himself," Riccio said. “Often I would talk to players that had just played South Sydney and I would ask them, ‘How was Sam Burgess last night?’ And there was a legitimate response that Sam wasn’t the Sam of old. He had just lost the punch and power." Riccio said that if 2019 was indeed the last of Burgess' career, it would be a cruel end to one of the great players in the modern NRL era. “It’s quite sad the w

Novak says it's important for the players to exaggerate their cool and calm attitude, especially with the Raiders players who most are playing their first Grand Final while the Roosters "When they get in there (the ground) it takes you like a storm. It's like a tsunami of energy... you feel emotions you've never felt before".

06/10/2019 Duración: 01minTwo-time Grand Finalist Jason Stevens joined Clinton Maynard to talk all things Grand Finals including his preview for the 2019 decider, and what went wrong in the 1993 final. Playing for the St George Dragons at the time, Stevens featured in his first final aged 20, in a losing effort against the Brisbane Broncos, in which he injured his thumb tackling Glenn Lazarus. “Myself and David Barnhill put a good shot on Glenn Lazarus but I soon discovered why they called him the Brick with Eyes. I looked down at my thumb and I literally saw it hanging off” It wasn't your regular thumb injury, Stevens was forced to go straight to hospital. "When I went back to the dressing room our doctor looked at it and called the ambulance out of fear of an infection. In fact it was hanging off so thinly he was afraid I could lose it. I had micro surgery while the game was on… So everything went wrong for us to be honest with you

Ricky Stuart calls on experience as key to storming Melbourne
14/09/2019 Duración: 07minIt’s been 3 years since the Canberra Raiders have played footy in September and this evening they’re hoping history won’t repeat itself when they lock horns with the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park. Back in 2016 Ricky Stuart was in the midst of his first season in the Nation's Capital when his side were bundled out of the NRL finals series by the Melbourne Storm in a preliminary finals nail biter, going down 14-12. The Raiders head coach joined Trent Nikolic and Richard Callendar on Macquarie Sports Radio to preview his sides upcoming clash with the Storm saying the big difference from this Raiders squad and those of the past is experience, and the ability to learn from their mistakes. “We’ve got a number of games under our belts… the boys are getting a little bit older. The last few years there's been a bit of resolve around the team, facing adversity. You know, we’ve lost games that we should have won. And the big thing is that we’ve actually l

Chad Townsend has nothing but praise for young Sharks
04/05/2019 Duración: 09minDespite the Cronulla Sharks missing around $3 million in players due to injuries they have upset NRL heavyweights the Melbourne Storm at PointsBet Stadium. Sharks half-back Chad Townsend joined Clinton and Sam on Weekend Breakfast to shine light on just how important the younger members of his squad were to last night's victory; “we’ve got all the confidence in the world that these young guys know our structures and the way that we play, it’s just about getting that out on the field at game time.” Despite having his hand stepped on by Josh Morris’ studs Townsend says that he hopefully will not be joining his sides seemingly never ending injury list; “I’ve actually gone and had some x-rays this morning so fingers crossed there’s no fracture and it’s just a ruptured blood vessel, which means I’ll be good to go next week.”

"I probably didn't think it was a penalty try", says Sharks halfback Chad Townsend
17/03/2019 Duración: 44sCronulla Sharks winger Sione Katoa was awarded a controversial penalty try in their 14-8 defeat to Newcastle in Rd 1. Edrick Lee obstructed Katoa but doubt remained about whether he was going to score a try. Sharks half Chad Townsend told Sam Stove and Clinton Maynard on Weekend Afternoons that he didn't think it should've been a try, instead thinking Lee, who intercepted a Townsend pass to score the winning try, should've been sent to the sin bin instead. “I probably didn’t think it was a penalty try. My thinking would’ve been a penalty and a professional foul which means Edrick Lee would’ve spent 10 minutes in the bin and I thought that would’ve been sufficient instead of a penalty try but the bunker obviously thought otherwise and that’s how it played”.

Off-field matters behind us, says Cowboys CEO Jeff Riebel
16/03/2019 Duración: 13minAfter an off-season filled with controversy the NRL is finally underway. One of those teams that had off-field issues was the North Queensland Cowboys, who terminated the contract of recruit Ben Barba before he even took the field. Ahead of their opening round match against the Dragons, CEO Jeff Reibel joined Clinton and Sam on Macquarie Sports Radio Weekend Afternoons to discuss the matters. " Ben Barba not being at our club any longer that one is well and truly behind us. I like to think people will understand the differentiation between Barba and Scott Bolton with the actions the club has taken. Both of those matters are closed". Reibel spoke about wanting to improve the education and culture in the NRL. "We want to ensure our education and culture programs are reflective of what they need to be to ensure that all of our players and all our staff is aware of what we do in this space. We are on top of the league when it comes to that in my opinion. We don’t condone violence against anyone, let a
