Sinopsis

A 40-something artist, writer and musician shares his musings about life and the endless quest for contentment. Recorded on the road or while hiking through the wilderness of Southern Ontario, Chub Creek features great indie music, original sketch comedy and a great visit. Chub Creek is one of the earliest Canadian podcasts, and was considered by some to be a pioneer in the genre.

Episodios

  • Chub Creek 167 - The Cat Situation

    25/05/2014 Duración: 38min

Join me for a bird-song filled stroll through Long Point Bird Sanctuary, and listen to me talk about my new friend, who, by the way, would have had a blast trying to eat all the goslings. Today’s musical selection was “Comfort Zone” by General Fuzz. I found it on a great website called Jamendo. Check it out. By the way, all music played on Chub Creek is, amazingly, downloadable for free. Add your kitty name suggestions in the comments!

  • Chub Creek 166 - May the 4th Be With You

    04/05/2014 Duración: 43min

For once, I actually sit down and try to say something coherent. “Try” being the key word there. As Yoda would say, “Do, or do not. There is no try.” Check out BIRP.fm for a lot of great music including today’s “2025” by Until the Ribbon Breaks. If you want that stupid ringtone it’s here (iPhone or Android) Take a look at some of the photos I was talking about below (at chubcreek.com)

  • Chub Creek 165 - Angry Birds

    27/04/2014 Duración: 50min

Do I really need to write this summary? I walk, I talk, I play music (from a full session live on dublab called The Heart Grows Old by Future Islands - amazingly they have some free songs on the FMA), I walk and I talk some more. The usual. Put on your headphones and listen. And don’t forget to answer my mini-poll. Do you have a “real” phone? Put it in the comments below (or if this is your iPhone go to chubcreek.com)** Update. Sorry about the dead air on the original upload. If you delete and re-download it should be fixed.**

  • Chub Creek 164 - An Acquired Taste

    18/04/2014 Duración: 44min

Really just a bunch of navel-gazing, but that’s nothing new, is it? Join me on another nature walk when it’s almost springlike for a change, and listen to me play a new instrument - badly. Thanks to the Scarborough Dude for making me want to talk about myself even more than usual. Today’s music selection was “Quintet in B minor for clarinet and strings, Op. 115” performed by Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

  • Chub Creek 163 - Saskamanitobia

    06/04/2014 Duración: 46min

It really was a toss up between naming this one “Saskamanitobia” and “Religious Sects and Chunks”. I hope I made the right choice. Today’s musical selection “1977” by Anita Tijou was brought to you freely and legally from the internet as MarvinSuicide.org would say. Thanks to him and to Brenda Dayne of Cast-On.com for unwittingly participating in today’s episode.

  • Chub Creek 162 - What Does That Even Mean?

    30/03/2014 Duración: 01h02min

A great visit with the kids, and some rambly ramblings from moi. Today’s excellent musical selection was: “Where is that clock” by Mary, Will and Dave circa 2005 and “Bad Things” by Rayland Baxter.

  • Chub Creek 161 - Oh My God Heartbreaking

    03/03/2014 Duración: 35min

It’s a driving one. Skip this if you don’t like driving ones. Check out the most excellent musical selection “What We’re Missing” by Aor Agni. Sorry about the cold.

  • Chub Creek 160 - Hockey Humbug

    23/02/2014 Duración: 51min

Hockey aside, I’d like to thank Sweden for the cool new lamp and end tables for under 50 bucks all in. Music today was “The Darkest Side” by The Middle East. The Ed and Ethel skit was inspired by real events involving parents who were in no way that maniacal about the mints, though they were tasty.

  • Chub Creek 159 - Where’s the Drugs?

    16/02/2014 Duración: 39min

This one’s for Mary. Frying up some Chub Creek lovin. Okay really it’s a lot of whining about how ill I was recently. Music was “Forget the Past” by The Irrepressibles. Enjoy.

  • Chub Creek 158 - Are You Not Entertained?

    18/11/2013 Duración: 36min

Thanks for caring enough to whine and complain about Chub Creek being in your life. Bit of the usual here, with some music by Axial called “Simbiose”. I think I’ve played it before, but I’m too lazy to check, and besides, who cares it’s a great track. Thanks to Ed and Ethel for the carefully synchronized intro.

  • Chub Creek 157 - Country Gentleman

    10/11/2013 Duración: 36min

Just thought I’d say hello. Music today is just me playing with a cool new iPad app (yes I finally got one, the iPad Air, more on that on a later episode) called “Scape” by Brian Eno. It’s so much fun to mess around with. Happy birthdays to my Dad and my Son.

  • Chub Creek 156 - AllGoneQuin Park

    07/10/2013 Duración: 01h41min

An extra long one today. Join me as I try to assemble wise words on the road, then later meet up with Gary for a long (LONG) hike at Algonquin Park. Two songs today: “Black Love (Nomis Yor's Feed Your Addiction Remix)” by The Easton Ellises and “Master and Servant” by Nouvelle Vague. If you’re reading this on the website see below for a bunch of photos from our trip :)

  • Chub Creek 155 - It Freaked Out Me

    15/09/2013 Duración: 49min

Join me for breakfast. (Today’s Musical Selections: Keep Cool Vocal Mix by Djad and So Low, So High by Shanendoah and the Night) The photos here on the website are of the new kitchen bar, the green paint, the new sink and counter, the chalkboard wall, and black cupboards. Also photos of my babies around the time of the segment I played of Mary and I going to the video store :)

  • Chub Creek 154 - Thirty Seven Little Farmers

    02/09/2013 Duración: 01h13min

About an hour of the kids’ visit. We get up to all sorts of silly stuff. I miss em a lot already. If you’d like a copy of our catchy tune you can download it from the Music Page :) You can see photos of the trip on the Chub Creek facebook page at facebook.com/chubcreek

  • Chub Creek 153 - Precious

    11/08/2013 Duración: 49min

Yikes it’s August already. That means it’s Fall soon, which is actually pretty awesome, so never mind. Anyway that has nothing to do with this episode, which is really just me driving around in the new Honda. That’s Precious right there in the photo, (if you’re visiting the website) parked by the old barn at Chub Creek. Today’s music was “Leave it Out” by Cursor Minor.

  • Chub Creek 152 - Damsels In This Dress

    05/08/2013 Duración: 45min

One scotch in the rain is worth an angry chipmunk in the bush. Don’t forget to let me know what you think of the slightly shorter format, or if you would prefer even shorter or even longer. Email me with the subject line “Length Matters”. Or post it on my facebook page where you can also see a few photos from this episode. If you enjoyed today’s song, you can download “Waiting” by Alice Boman for free. Be sure to look for her upcoming EP, “Skisser”. Oh and you can follow me on Instagram at SpoonDaveSquarePics.

  • Chub Creek 151 - When When We See You Again

    28/07/2013 Duración: 40min

It’s my beautiful daughter Mary’s birthday today!!! Everybody please wish her happy birthday or I will come find you and egg your house. We had a great time today at Wye Marsh. Thanks to Rackets vs. VED for their rowdy track “Just Friends”. I’m too lazy to keep posting photos on the home page, but by all means if you’d like to see photos of today’s adventures, please visit the Chub Creek Facebook page at facebook.com/chubcreek. Like something while you’re at it. LIKE IT! ha ha.

  • Chub Creek 150 - Mac and Cheese Loaf

    21/07/2013 Duración: 46min

Bug infested walkage at Forks of the Credit Provincial park. Actually it wasn’t that bad, I just made the mistake of reading all about the worst kinds of stinging bugs right before leaving. (Read about the Tarantula Hawk and other horrible stinging bugs here). A bit of yabber about public speaking, some more yammer about how my dog’s tongue reminds me of my first girlfriend... and more. Music is “We’re the Kids” by Parade of Lights from the BIRP! Indie Playlist for July 2013.

  • Chub Creek 149 - Nerdy Words

    07/07/2013 Duración: 01h05min

Join me at Cold Creek as I hike my way to near heat exhaustion. Today we chat about birds, Ghost stories, helecopters, ancient and modern Egypt, Teaching, High School English, the 777 plane crash, graphic design and star wars. Susy Rice’s article is here. I highly recommend it if you’re into the ‘Wars. I’m posting my awesome, super incredible life changing tweet exchange with Ms. Rice below, along with some snapshots I got before almost dying in the heat. Today’s beautiful music selection was “If I Were You” by Timothy Carroll.

  • Chub Creek 148 - Muggy Buggy

    30/06/2013 Duración: 58min

Some baseball, some hiking, some bugs. Then more bugs. Then more bugs. Today’s excellent musical selection was “New Summer” by Young Galaxy.
