On his local show on traditional radio this week Henrik Lockhart will bring to his audience the Danish Polcalypso Band with Kazio Kierpaul, a Dane with musical calypso roots and with songs of Crucian-born James "Jamesie" Brewster, of course. The Virgin Islands Literary Festival and Book Fair will feature several events highlighting the historic Crucian writer and  activist, Hubert Harrison, the weekend of March 26-29. Wanda DeHaven Pyle, a late-comer to the field of writing, grew up on a farm in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Kim Robinson's father, a tailor, inspired me. The first thing Kim ever made, a halter top, was the kind with the choker ring around the neck. She attached some yellow yarn as hair, buttons for eyes, and for lips, a red licorice. Sadly, the California sun melted the licorice all over the place, but every little girl in the neighborhood was exchanging their toys for one.
