  • Concussion Chats - Episode 30 - Riding the waves of concussion; symptoms and treatment, with Ashley

    07/06/2021 Duración: 49min

Here are a few words from Ashley:In April of 2018, I was on vacation in Mexico for a girls/surfing trip. On the second wave of my second day I bailed when my board struck me in the head underwater. I didn’t know what happened at the time, I just know I struggled to get back onto my board and I was extremely lucky another surfer saw me and helped me out of the waves. I had no idea I had a concussion until I stepped onto the plane two days later to come back home one person and landed a completely different person. Looking back with what I know about concussions today, the signs were all there, I just wish I knew what I know now.Since then I’ve been climbing the uphill, rollercoaster battle of Post Concussion Syndrome. I share my story to create awareness to help others so they don’t have to navigate PCS in the dark like I did.Concussion Chats is a podcast hosted by the McGill Students for the Concussion Legacy Foundation, with the help of Nick from Concussion Talk. • Concussion Chats - Episode 29 - Positivity, recognizing symptoms & emotions with Katrina

    31/05/2021 Duración: 41min

Katrina.32.Athlete & Entrepreneur.Been playing competitive hockey for 25 years. No known Concussions until a severe hit from behind in hockey March 2019. Didn’t know I was concussed until 10 days later and things spiralled from there. My body shut down. Hospitalized almost a week (endless testing and bright loud environment made it worse). I had to relearn how to walk, talk. Couldn’t work or function normally for 6 months. Shared my story on social media. A friend took me to Ottawa Performance Care and after 8 months of twice a day rehab they gave me my life back. I could walk, talk and begin to live again. I’d say I’m 90% healed. I have many good days and some bad and although my life may never be the same pre concussion, I will never stop bringing awareness and continuing to live life in a slower, more calculated and present lane. Forever grateful for support from family, friends and strangers. You can heal. One day at a time.
