Pastor Andrew will share with us what CLC hopes to do as our governments make changes to COVID-19 restrictions and best practices.

1. God created men and women in His image, and on the 6th day he said it was very good. We are ALL human and should see each other as such and as equals       (Gen 1:27). God is also a creative God, so he made us diverse. Heaven will be a place filled from every nation, tribe, people and language (Rev 7:9). 2. But sin entered the world, and mankind developed pride, "I am better than you." Men and women looked at certain people groups and said, "You are not equal to us." Discrimination can be based on skin color, language, race, ethnicity, gender, faith, etc. (Biblical example of man's discrimination and systemic racism, Acts 10:9-16, Acts 15:1-19, God's warning not to call certain people unclean when God has made them clean,  which helped Peter to later speak against the Judaizers requiring Gentiles to be circumcised like Jewish Christians, to be qualified into faith) Historical and current example: US Declaration of Independence says "All men are created equal." You can't help having privilege, but you can help what you do with it.

The big idea for this message is to walk through what the Bible teaches about God as a Father. Most Christians are familiar with this concept but perhaps they have forgotten how radical it is. For me, I constantly forget about my new standing before God (won for me by Jesus) as son-to-Father. And when I remember it, it always gives me a jolt of grace. The three points for this message move to unpack what it means to relate to God as Father. 1. We do not relate to him as a servant does his master (utilitarian) but as a child does her father (intimacy, favor, access). 2. He disciplines us. This is a principle for the rest of the sermon series... The implication here is that God loves us enough not just to tell us the things we long to hear but also the things we don't! 3. God the Father desires all of his children (of all races) to be at peace with one another. This is something that most people want, but ultimately this is what God the Father desires for all his children.

Who is our neighbor? Well, who do you see? It's whoever you meet today and our neighbor is anyone that we can help esp. those who are "Broken." In light of what's happening in our country, God sees our hurt and our brokenness and He is guiding us to see other's hurt and needs!

Have you ever felt like you were "stuck in the mud"? You are spinning your wheels and going nowhere? Worries are strangling your life? You can’t sleep at night? Everything in your world turned upside down? Pandemics can do that. On top of that, shelter-in-place can increase feelings of isolation, anxiety, hopelessness and depression. Loneliness was a big problem before the pandemic, and now made worse. Are you having negative thoughts? Feeling non-essential? Your misery can’t end fast enough? In Psalm 40, David can identify with you. He is in the "mud" and is sinking fast. David calls out to God and in the clutch "delivers” him. Do you want that for yourself now and forever more? It reminds me of people who have had a loved one pass away.
