Common Warfare Tactic = divide and conquer Jesus warned us, “No city or house divided against itself will stand.” (Matthew 12:25) To counter, Jesus commanded us to have “love for one another.” (John 13:35) Yet we keep on hurting each other, even in our usage of spiritual gifts as we try to love. The Apostle Paul addressed this problem: 1 Cor 13:1-3, “but have not love, I gain nothing.” 1 Cor 12:14-27, Diversity is not division. Unity is not conformity. God designed us to be interdependent. Dangers to be aware of: Gift envy Gift projection Gift pridefulness Conclusion: There are no right or wrong spiritual gifts. One gift is not better than another. To make disciples who love God, love people, and serve the world.

Context: Jesus is having one last meal with his closest friends. Knowing that his life is coming to an end, He gives them one last teaching. (v.15) Why do you think it’s necessary for Jesus to say - if you love me you will obey my commands? Is it possible to love and not obey? Is it possible to obey and not love? (v.16) How do you respond to Jesus when he says (on your behalf): I will ask the Father and He will give you another Helper. Do you feel the need for a helper? How does the giving of the Holy Spirit relate to loving and obeying Jesus? Based on this passage what does the Holy Spirit do? How does he help? (v.22-24) Lastly, how does Jesus answer Judas‘ (not Iscariot) question about engaging the rest of the world? How does this teaching personally apply to you? How does it apply to us as a community?

Milton Gee shares a change in his life.

When someone comes to you and says, “I have Good News, Bad News,” which do you prefer to hear first? When Jesus was having supper with his disciples in the upper room, he had “Good News, Bad News” for them. The “Bad News” was Jesus was leaving them soon. Upon hearing this, the disciples became troubled. To comfort the disciples, Jesus had 3 astounding statements of Good News for them (and for us today): 1. Location, Location, Location. “I go to prepare a place for you.” (v.2) An eternal room in Heaven with God. 2. Jesus the Standard. “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” (v.6) Jesus is the way to follow, the truth to believe, the life to hope for. 3. Supernatural Power. “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” (v.14) Promise for answered prayer to accomplish greater works than Jesus’.
