The main driving idea: you ________ be born again. Jesus, when he was here on earth, had a mission. He made disciples so that they could continue to make more disciples. We, who follow Jesus, therefore should be “Getting Out There” to share about Jesus to others. For us to be effective, we should invite Jesus to come too. From John 2:1-11, when we invite Jesus to the party: 1. When problems or challenges happen, we can bring them to Jesus. (v. 3) 2. When Jesus is actively working, he will use us to serve alongside him in the work. (v. 7) 3. When Jesus shows his power and glory, we will enjoy that transformational power in us too. (v. 9-11) “[The master of the banquet] said, ‘You have saved the best till now.’” (John 2: 11)

The Questions we dare not ask when it comes to caring for those in need: • What if I am too busy to help someone in need? • What if I don’t have the gift of compassion? • What if the person in need is not starving? (They have a TV at home!) • What if they are ungrateful and entitled? • What if they use their money to feed an addiction? • What if they are in a bad situation because of the poor decisions they made?

You become like the people you are closest to so choose your friends wisely. “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Proverbs 13:20 “The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.” Proverbs 12:26 Life is hard; you need the strength that only good friends can provide. “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Conversations take place everyday of our lives. At home, at school, at work. These talks happen over tables in kitchens, restaurants and lunchrooms. How we treat one another can be demonstrated by how we speak to one another. The Book of Proverbs has some wise instructions for us: A. Talk to heal, not hurt. (Proverbs 12:18) B. Talk truth lovingly. (Proverbs18:21a, Ephesians 4:15) C. Talk with discretion. (Proverbs 17:27-28, Proverbs 15:28) To do: 1. Ask for God’s help to discipline your tongue. 2. Affirm someone this week with your words. 3. Optional: Forgive someone who has hurt you by their words.
