Where we talk sports and more. We discuss sports, community, outreach programs, diversity inclusion and more.     All I wanted to do is play baseball… Luisa Gauci is one of the few female baseball players playing in college. Her love of the game is profound, and her commitment to elevating baseball for women is her goal. Luisa’s journey has taken her from Australia to America; She currently plays for West L.A.’s college baseball team, and she is constantly looking to get better at her craft. That search has landed Luisa as an instructor with Driveline baseball. Where she focuses on analytics and data to get better and also teach other girls to excel at the game of baseball. Analytics and data have been readily available for men playing baseball, but not women. At just 19 years old she has already spoken in front of all MLB teams about women playing baseball.     What an incredibly memorable Saturday it was? Football & Politics we're on full display for the world to see. Clemson vs Notre Dame was everything and more than a college football fan could want. The Irish outrushed the Tigers 217-48, Game was interrupted by the President-elect, took 2 OTs to determine the outcome and fans rush the field like it was 1993. Can't wait for Dec. 19th ACC Championship game. Herm Edwards and his Sun Devils with an incredibly difficult loss vs USC, as the Pac-12 conference finally kick off their season. How big was Indiana's win? It's only their 2nd win vs Michigan in 53 years. Tom Allen has his Hoosiers team as can't miss TV. Dori Bennett highlights her "Where's my Dawgs at?" segment. Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Garcia discusses how to minimize injuries, so we can spend more time doing the things that we enjoy, and less time recovering from them. What are some common injuries that he sees as an Orthopedic Surgeon and why? How should we prepare for activities? How should we listen to our bodies? What are signs that it’s time to see a doctor?     Little Johnny wants to become a pro baseball player, but it all starts with little league. Dr. Grant H. Garcia shares his expertise on baseball injuries starting at the little league level and above. Dr. Garcia has authored over 70 publications in prominent peer-reviewed journals including the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.  Dr. Garcia was named a Seattle Met Top Doctor in 2019 & 2020. We discuss common baseball injuries, such as shoulder and elbow injuries, specifically UCL tears (Tommy John), pitching, the importance of proper rest days, and adhering to the pitching guidelines laid out by littleleague.org. Is there an increased risk of injury when a player only plays a specialized sport all year long? Are there adverse effects of teaching kids how to throw breaking balls at an early age?     NYSEA guest this week is Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Wayne Weil. Dr. Weil is specialized in many areas including hand surgeries and hand ailments, but also has published several scientific papers and presented his research in the field of trauma injuries at national meetings. That was the focus of our conversation. Traumatic injuries. How do people deal with the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of sustaining a traumatic injury? This past week we saw Dak Prescott suffer a traumatic injury when he was tackled on a routine football play that led to a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. On the same day that Dak sustained his injury, Alex Smith returned to the playing field almost 2 years after suffering a well-documented compound fracture of his tibia and fibula. As Dr. Weil mentions in the show, the easy part is the surgery. The emotional and mental aspect of healing begins after surgery. Fascinating show. Educational and Insightful.     We look back at a crazy week 6 in college football starting with the Red River Rivalry. What do you want in a rivalry? Over 900 total yards, 88 points, 4 OTs, 8 TOs, blocked punt, blocked FG, and a pear tree. Wow. The SEC has another Saban coaching disciple in Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss vs Alabama did not disappoint. Want defense? Not this week. These two teams combined for almost 1,400 yards and 111 points. If Alabama doesn't fix their defense next week Georgia will exploit their weakness they way they did to Tennessee this weekend in a 44-21 win. LSU struggling this season. Who's fault is it?  The Carolina Panthers that's who! What?! I'll explain it. .
