Ramifications of the Coronavirus continues, The NCAA announced they will be slashing school payouts by $375 million. How will this affect schools, how many athletic programs will cease in the future?  On March 30th, the NCAA will make a decision on whether winter & spring sports will receive an extra year of eligibility. Who will pay for that and could schools even if they wanted to? Incoming freshmen are engaging in "Distance learning",  trying to keep up with grades, eligibility, and tests. The College football rankings are finally out and the committee deemed that the best team in the nation is the Buckeye’s. Did they get it right? How might the rankings look in the next few weeks?  4 teams have a chance at the end of the year to win a National Championship. Are you happy with the playoff format? We’ll discuss it. Is London really getting an NFL team? Dean Spanos has clearly voiced his opinion. Now hear ours. David Gallop & The FFA (Football Federation Australia) now will pay women’s football (soccer) equally. They will receive the same cut of commercial revenue. They (Matildas) are entitled to the same travel and training as the men’s club (Socceroos). They Join New Zealand and Norway as the only countries that pay both men and women on the same pay scale. We discuss this, and how come the US Women’s soccer team's continual battle in the court for equal pay hasn't happened yet. NYSEA 55 – Guest co-host Scott Laigo, President of Student-Athletes advocate joins NYSEA this week. As we discuss the “Fair Pay to Play Act.” First California announced they would be allowing Student-Athletes the opportunity to earn money off their name, brand and likeness. We then hear that Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) warned the NCAA “ We’re coming for you.” Now this past Tuesday, the NCAA announces they are now on board, but not before a subcommittee takes 14 months to figure how this should all look like. There’s so much good that athlete’s do in their communities, Players like Deshaun Watson and Warrick Dunn that give back to those in need. The Sooners offense has totaled more than 600 yards a game this season, and 23 times the last 55 games. With 2 Heisman winners in the NFL is he next as the league looks to get younger? The reign has come to an end in NY as Danny Dimes take the helm as the Giants new QB, as we look back at Eli’s career and say thanks for the spectacular memories. We talk tennis this week and not just about Nadal and his 5 set epic match vs. Medvedev, but the US Open experience overall. Dori Bennett, Nathan Hale’s HS tennis coach spent a few days in Flushing Queens, NY and “opens” up about the incredible experience she had being there. Watching the games, the practices, the fans and most of all…the wonderful people in NYC. She shares her suggestions for the fan to visit and enjoy the experience of being at the US Open. She observed and shared some of the habits of the players and what they focus on in their practices. We discuss HS Tennis and what we would like to see happen here in Washington. NYSEA turns 50! That’s 50 episodes, not 50 years old silly. This week we talk college football, especially the Pac-12. Heisman hopefuls? Looks like they might have two legitimate players that can make a run at it this season. Which means that this can be an exciting year for the Pac-12. We get into the transfer rule and how that has impacted both Colson Yankoff and the Huskies and what it may mean for future transfers. What happens when you’re a parent and all you want to do is help your children by giving them the best opportunities to succeed and you get scammed? Well, that’s what happened to the Parker family and many others. Scott Laigo from SAAdvocates gives us some tips for what to watch for, and what’s the best way to get your student-athlete noticed by coaches without spending thousands of dollars. This week we welcome Scott Laigo President of Student Athlete Advocates to NYSEA. Scott helps parents and student-athletes through the eligibility, recruiting and financial aid process. From D1 to NAIA. We discuss the importance of getting advice early. As early as 8th grade. We discuss the deplorable incident this past week with adults fighting in front of 7-year old kids. What needs to be done, the importance of our kids having fun and why would anyone want to umpire games. Do you know what a Snowplow parent is? Helicopter meets Snowplow. Parents are more involved in their kids' training, decision making, and social status. Is it too much, can parents and coaches find a middle ground, or will this continue to be the trend? This week California passed a law (Bill 206) that would allow college athletes in the state to earn compensation for their use of their own name, image or likeness, beginning in 2023. This week on NYSEA we catch up with Athletic trainer and fitness manager, Blaine John "BJ" Bennett. Blaine John is a certified speed and agility coach. He hangs out with us to discuss training, diets, protein, exercise, TRX, mistakes in training. We get into supplements, who to consult, exercises every athlete should work on, etc. Is your trainer right for you? we discuss it and much more. A little more about Blaine John...After finishing his football playing career and graduating from Central Washington University with a BA in coaching & motor skill development, B.J. has been involved with multiple football development and coaching programs. With a sports business background and coaching experience at the high school, college, and international levels, B.J. brings his knowledge and energy to the All-Northwest Football Passing Academy staff.
