Labor Day, the official unofficial end of summer and all that. What a way to wrap it up with Food Trucks and Sundaes on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend at The Sacred Cow Scoop Shop and Market at Munroe Dairy in East Providence, RI with seven food trucks and a few hundred friends.

So it turns out that chef-owner Christopher Bender is known as ... Bender. I may be late to this party in fact, but anyway, here is the sound of a great Newport opening party for Christopher - i mean Bender's and Dave Crowell's new Chart House Inn with fabulous leading lady, Nicole Canning! 

It's always fun to sit down with my friend Lou Perella. Sometimes we have specific topics and other times like this one we just let the tape roll - it's really an mp3 - and see where it takes us. Your Food Dude is most often asked, "What is your most memorable meal?" That is, next to, "why don't you weigh 400 lbs?" The memorable meal answer has an easy first part. It is always, "That time my wife Brenda and I..." After that there are many choices. Chef's tables, special places, occasions, on and on. So I asked Ted Tomlinsen, proprietor of the one and only Spanked Puppy in Colchester, Vermont. He started the conversation with two memorable meals and the convo is still going on! With special guest appearance by Griff!!

So your Food Dude has been bringing you the "scoop" for over twenty-five years. This summer, we're literally bringing you the scoop on our Island Homemade Ice Cream Summer Scoop Tour. Here is the sound of us making lots of friends on a perfect July afternoon in the heart of the Green Mountains in Rochester, Vermont.

Bramble, in Essex, Vt is a new restaurant built on the vision of its two chef-owner partners, Shawn Hyer and Colleen Hunt, who literally cooked their way from Vermont across the country and back again. They are all about sharing plates, stories, and their vision on a recent jam-packed Monday night.

East Middlebury, in Addison County, has long been known as the “land of milk and honey.” Everything grows here. So it is not surprising that chefs grow here too. The Waybury Inn  has had one head chef for the last four or five decades - Donna Siebert - and she grew up across the street. What is remarkable is that Incoming Head Chef Tony Petri literally grew up next door, learned to cook and made his way to the Waybury. Here they are talking about food, culinary and the Waybury Inn.

So the Island Homemade Ice Cream team and I are out to get everybody to taste our Made In Vermont amazing Homemade Ice Cream, Sorbet and Ice Cream Pies - one scoop at a time. The Summer Scoop Tour made our first stop of the season at Sam Mazza's Farm Market in Colchester (VT) on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Maura scooped, the Head Scoop Bob was on hand and I had a chance to talk to some ice cream friends - some new, some tried and true. And for my WVMT fam - listen all the way to the end for a nugget just for you!

Burlington (VT) Wine & Food came back with a roar the weekend of June 25, 2022. With celebrity chefs and thousands of wine and food fans and a spectacular summer day on Lake Champlain, it was a smashing success. Come along with Food Dude Bruce Newbury as he asks almost obsessively "What's In Your Glass?" with celeb chefs Brian Duffy, Nick Liberato and Kev D .

Meet two of the leading Bakemasters - as in Clambake - in Rhode Island and maybe the world. Captain Vinny of the Warren (RI) Fire Brigades has been putting on clambakes at the local firehouses for decades. Similar to the super-secret chili recipes firehouses are famous for all over the nation, in our part of New England its the clambake secrets - what kind of sausage goes with that seafood, how long are the fires burning, which gets put first on the hot rocks that do the cooking, and how many games of horseshoes and how much beer will we need before the whole thing is ready! Capt Vinny says if you ask ten bakemasters you will get ten answers and they will all be absolutely right! So we asked legendary Newport (RI) bakemaster T.R. McGrath who goes back generations for some of his secrets. Listen and try to find out who puts on the ultimate clambake.

What happens when you have a Chili Cook-Off and Summer breaks out! It happened in May in Vermont. Thanks to some intrepid Chili chefs, amazing Cabot Creamery Cheese and Sour Cream and Island Homemade Ice Cream to cool us down, it was fantastic. With Ted Tomlinsen, Anthony Neri, Maura Fitzgerald and the crew from the Spanked Puppy in Colchester, Vermont.
