  • 124. Brian Kelly Leaves Notre Dame, Washington hires DeBoer, and the college football committee make an announcement

    02/12/2021 Duración: 44min

Guests: Coaches, Dori Bennett, and Scott Laigo. Topics: Brian Kelly leaves the Irish for LSU, Washington hires DeBoer & the CFB committee still stinks. Podcast: NYSEA radio on Spotify, Apple, iheart, Audacy, and many other platforms. We had to do a mid-week show because of the Topsy-Turvey week that we have already had in college football. The coaching carousel continues as Brian Kelly in a surprising move leaves Notre Dame for LSU. We discuss the departure, the playoffs, and the etiquette of this move. Also as Washington Huskies fans, we had to get into the hire of DeBoer from Fresno State and the expectations along with disappointments. College football playoff selection committee chair Gary Barta said. "Once the championship games wrap up … the protocol does include the ability for the committee to consider a player or a coach not being available. Should that have an effect on the outcome of a game, that can be considered. At this point, we’ll have to wait and see how that factors in.” It sounds like e

  • 123. Lincoln Riley heads to USC, Michigan wins THE GAME, CFB Playoff chaos

    29/11/2021 Duración: 01h12min

Guests: Coaches, Dori Bennett, and Scott Laigo. Topics: Lincoln Riley goes to USC, Michigan wins THE GAME, Apple Cup results & more. Podcast: NYSEA radio on Spotify, Apple, iheart, Audacy, and many other platforms. USC and Lincoln Riley snuck out the back door together when no one was looking. As the media and fans, we’re distracted with Riley possibly going to other teams such as Florida, LSU, or staying put at Oklahoma. The Trojans wrap up their big fish in Lincoln Riley. A hire that will not only help USC but bring relevance to the Pac-12. A relevance that only Oregon could provide. Michigan finally gets their win over the Buckeyes. I don’t know what was more impressive…The way they played or the way they partied. A game they will remember in Ann Arbor for all the right reasons. Imagine being a college football fan and not seeing Ohio State, a rising Utah, and perhaps even an Alabama not being in the playoffs? There are fans that would love it, but I’m not sure if the NCAA does. We all know they love t

  • Episode 122 - Pac-12 out of college football playoffs, Scott's Happy Valley experience, and Apple Cup and rivalry memories.

    21/11/2021 Duración: 52min

Guests: Coaches, Dori Bennett, and Scott Laigo. Topics: Pac-12 out again, Scott in Happy Valley, Apple Cup stories, and more. Podcast: NYSEA radio on Spotify, Apple, iheart, Audacy, and many other platforms. Utah dismantled Oregon with a dominating performance this past weekend, and once again for the fifth consecutive season, the Pac-12 will not be a representative in the college football playoffs. A concern for college football as even Greg Sankey the SEC commissioner has been on record that their absence has not been good for the sport. Kudos to Kyle Whittingham and his Utes, as they show us once again that they are the class of the Pac-12. In his 18th season, coach Whittingham has led his team to the Pac-12 title game for the 3rdtime out of the last 4 seasons. Former football coach Scott Laigo travels to Happy Valley and shares his experiences being there. One of the great stories he shares is Penn State coach James Franklin speaking to his team about the Zac Stacey incident and his message to his players

  • Episode 121 - Jimmy Lake has been fired from Washington

    15/11/2021 Duración: 49min

On November 14th, Jennifer Cohen, Athletic Director at the University of Washington fired football head coach Jimmy Lake after 13 games. The last time a coach at Washington had a shorter tenure was in 1956. Jimmy Lake, the successor to Chris Peterson, was supposed to pave the way for future Huskie’s glory. A reputation as being one of the top defensive coaches in college football was a young up-and-coming coach that should have cemented himself in Husky lore for years to come. That expectation came to a stunning halt after 13 games.  There is much to unpack with this bold decision. Was Coach Lake over his head or was this decision made way too hastily? Did Coach Lake ever have a chance to succeed here in the Pacific Northwest, or were there certain individuals waiting for the first signs of failure to give them the excuse to be rid of Jimmy Lake?   A great discussion covering many avenues, thoughts, and frustrations.    Disclaimer: Due to technical difficulties with one of the three microp

  • Episode 120 - Coach Blaine "Shorty" Bennett

    08/11/2021 Duración: 01h10min

Guests: Coaches Blaine “Shorty” Bennett, Dori Bennett and Scott Laigo Legendary Coach Blaine “Shorty” Bennett talks football with us as we cover a variety of topics with the 3-time state champion and coach of the year. Shorty has written multiple articles on the fundamentals of throwing the football, training the quarterback, and passing schemes. In addition, he has developed training videos on pass catching and proper route running techniques for receivers. The All-Northwest Football Camps have received national recognition from ESPN, the New England Sports Network, and the NFL Game Day programs. In 1972, Shorty and Mac Bledsoe (Drew Bledsoe’s father) started the All-Northwest Football Camp, which specialized in the training of quarterbacks and receivers. Throughout the camp’s 34 years, scores of quarterbacks and receivers went on to play at the collegiate level and several others were drafted and played in the NFL. A few from the state of Washington include Clint Didier - Washington Redskins, Steve Pelluer

  • Episode 119 - 2021 college football week 9 recap

    03/11/2021 Duración: 50min

Guests: Coaches and teacher, Dori Bennett and Scott Laigo Discussions: 106-0 is the final. 13 passing touchdowns and a 2-point conversion up by 104 points. Some will say…if you don’t like it stop it. Others will say a coach is a teacher and their responsibility is to have their athletes learn bigger lessons than the final score. It’s a hot topic after head coach Mil’Von James from Inglewood High School ran up the score and refused to have a running clock after being up 59-0. We discuss coaches’ roles and sportsmanship. The battle of Michigan versus Michigan State lived up to the hype. The Heisman hype… as Kenneth Walker III showcased himself on the biggest stage so far this season with a five-touchdown performance. As the Spartans rise up the charts, or should I say... poll. Harbaugh and his Wolverines once again are being asked can Jim get it done. Is he the right man for the job? As we’ve seen this season already, coaches don’t last. Coaches such as Clay Helton, Nick Rolovich, and recently Gary Patterson ha

    25/10/2021 Duración: 01h08min

Pitt quarterback, Kenny Pickett is rising up the Heisman Charts. The 4-year starter defeated Clemson this past weekend while breaking Alex Van Pelts completion record, and now has eyes set on Dan Marino’s career touchdown record. As Pittsburgh climbs up the AP Poll rankings, Clemson continues their surprising slide. A year that has seen Heisman hopefuls such as DJ Uiagalelei and Spencer Rattler struggle, Coaches Dori Bennett, Scott Laigo and I discuss if we can remember a year where players that have had so much hype, and yet had struggled so mightily. Teams such as Washington have struggled offensively. They barely defeated Arizona and seem to be struggling in their Pro-Style offense. Do players prefer tempo, RPO’s, spread, over Pro-Style? Will a team's offensive philosophy impact a student-athlete decision to pick one school over the other? This week’s Student-Athletes Advocate Tidbits: Scott discusses the NCAA clearinghouse process. • Episode 117 - 2021 college football week 7 recap

    17/10/2021 Duración: 47min

Great having coaches Dori Bennett and Scott Laigo on the show… Another college football week is in the books, and we start with the Washington Huskies. As they continue to disappoint. Once again there was a failure at the coaching and quarterback position. At this point, Dylan Morris is not capable of leading his team to a win as he continues to turn the ball over. The bread and butter of this team year after year has been their defense. A defense that is unrecognizable at this juncture of the season. As UCLA steamrolled them to a tune of 237 rushing yards. Is time running out for this staff on Montlake? Speaking of time running out. It seems the clock has struck midnight on Nick Rolovich and his unvaccinated coaches. The Cougars coach may have won against the Cardinals this weekend, but his desire to remain unvaccinated has been a divisive topic for all Cougar fans at Pullman, WA. The number two team in the country suffered a loss and the new AP Top 25 poll is out. Also, this week in our SAA Tidbits segment,

Former football coach and current president of Student Athletes Advocates, Scott Laigo joins me to discuss a variety of topics after a fun week four in college football. Scott will also discuss the differences between a core GPA versus an accumulative GPA. Important information for student-athletes. • NYSEA Episode 114 - 2021 College football week 3 recap

    20/09/2021 Duración: 55min

What do we do? We talk sports. It's as simple as that. What a weekend for college football. The "whiteout" game lived up to the hype with over a hundred thousand fans in attendance. Penn State and their beleaguered quarterback put on a great performance as Sean Clifford hand his best night as a Nittany lion as they go on to defeat the Auburn Tigers. The party might have gone on long into the night but concerned fans might have to worry about their coach James Franklin being looked at by other teams. A rough day/night for the SEC officials. Do we ignore it? Of course not. We have plenty to say. The Big Ten has 6 teams that are undefeated. The conference as played great and look no further than Mel Tucker’s Spartans. It’s been an incredible turnaround. We discuss the coach, players, and the impact that the transfer portal has had not only one the Spartans, but inevitably the entire sport of college football. What’s better than jello shots?  Coach Dori having jello shots. As her Huskies finally get their fi

  • Episode 113 - Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Grant Garcia discusses NFL injured players

    16/09/2021 Duración: 30min

Expectations are plentiful from fan bases far and wide. Whether it’s 1920 and you rooted for the Decatur Staleys or Muncie Flyers, or now in 2021, it’s the New York Giants or the Seattle Seahawks. Football fans have eternal hope and optimism that their team can reach the ultimate pinnacle and bring a championship home to their fan base. For teams… having skilled players, competent coaches, and front offices with dash luck is usually a recipe for a possible successful season, but as we know injuries play a big part. In this episode, Dr. Grant Garcia and I look back at some key injuries to big named players in 2020, and how they’ve bounced back or not and discuss the severity of their injuries sustained. From ACL injuries to Saquon Barkley and Nick Bosa to Ankle compound fractures and dislocation to Dak Prescott. Fast forward to 2021 and after 1 week the league has already lost players for the season. Raheem Mostert is hurt, and Jason Verrett is out again with his 2nd torn ACL. Dr. Grant Garcia discusses his co

  • Episode 112 - 2021 CFB week 2 recap

    12/09/2021 Duración: 43min

College football week 2 is in the books and it was an emotional one. Our coaches Dori Bennett, Scott Laigo, and I remember 9/11 and recognize the wonderful halftime performance by the Michigan Band as they paid tribute to the lives lost 20 years ago. The 2 biggest wins in the first two weeks of this College Football season have come from the Pac-12. As Oregon defeated #3 Oh io State in the best game of the weekend. The Ducks averaged 7.07 yards per rush as the Buckeyes give up over 200 rushing yards. The conference of champions is having a great start to their season so far. On the other end of the spectrum are the Huskies. As they have struggled mightily on offense. After scoring a touchdown on their opening drive in week one, they proceeded to not score on their next 19 drives. The loss to Michigan has put their coaching staff on the hot seat and for good reason. On a positive note, Dori's positive player spotlight focuses on Race Porter. The Washington punter has been raising mental health awareness. Discu

    06/09/2021 Duración: 39min

As we creep back to normality and even though there are many challenges that lay ahead this college football season, the sport is back the way we know it, and so are we. Coaches Dori Bennett and Scott Laigo join me as we discuss some of the storylines that matter the most to us. This week we talk about our impressions from the first week. The atrocious play from the Washington Huskies and perhaps the future of the program. The joy of seeing McKenzie Milton play after his devastating injury was the biggest storyline this week. We discuss our surprises and disappointments.  Dori will highlight positive player/team/program spotlights each week, and this week she discusses the Black Student Athlete Alliance at the University of Washington and its importance to the student body. Scott Laigo, President of Student Athletes Advocates will focus on the process of eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, and more. This week he discusses his concerns over the size of these team's rosters, the transfer portal, and th

  • Episode 110 - Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Grant Garcia discusses key injuries athletes have incurred during the 2020 Olympics

    06/08/2021 Duración: 29min

The Doc is in! Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Grant Garcia… "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle.” – Pierre de Coubertin The 2020 summer Olympics has had it all, and as we have watched with excitement, triumph, and heartache during these Olympics, we have also noticed that injuries play a big part in the outcome of these wonderful games. This week Dr. Grant Garcia looks at some of the key injuries that have occurred in these games, and how athlete’s physical and mental injuries had impacted their personal and team performances. 19/07/2021 Duración: 27min

Starting July 23rdthrough August 8th the world’s greatest athletes will compete for the ultimate glory…to be recognized as the best at their sport and represent their country while doing so. This Olympics will introduce a few new sports to their games and one of these sports is Skateboarding. Once upon a time, this sport in the ’50s was referred to as “Asphalt Surfers” and then in 1978, Alan Gelfand invented a maneuver that gave skateboarding another revolutionary jump: the “Ollie”, which counts as the greatest trick ever invented and completely revolutionized skateboarding. That was the birth of street skateboarding. Ever since then the sport grew immensely. From Skate videos and magazines in the 80’s to the rise of Extreme Games (X games) in 1995 and in 1999 the Hawk soared through the air to land the first 900 as Tony Hawk became the face of Skateboarding. Skateboarding is uber-popular today and as the popul

A recent example is the dislocated kneecap that Brooks Koepka suffered right before the 2021 Masters tournament.
